Background info: Grindhouse consists of Planet Terror written and directed by Robert Rodriguez, and Death Proof, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino; two full-length segments of action and horror inspired by 1970s era kung-fu, car-chase, and spaghetti-western genres.
Reaction: Fuck were these movies ever AWESOME (and so were the pseudo-’previews’ shown before and between the films)!!! The more I think about them the more I love them both. I had so much bloody fun watching these flicks, it’s as though I was in them. And I felt just like smashing shit up afterwards. Well, I felt like that and I also felt an overpowering desire to eat breakfast at 12:30 at night thanks to a particularly sensuous brunch-at-the-diner scene in Death Proof, which left my tongue watering like a crazy person’s. Planet Terror is non-stop action packed with ridiculous cop-car explosions, purposely retarded looking zombies, exploding skin boils, kids shooting themselves in the face, and one-legged hot chicks (Rose McGowan) doing stuff like this:

Death Proof is Taranino’s third-wave feminist take on action film-making. The (mainly) male audience members in the theatre in which I saw this film were made to endure two extremely long, slow, and tedious segments of ‘girl talk’ in anticipation of some spectacular smash-up action! Of course, Tarantino does eventually deliver on the action, but only with a truly hilarious and reverse-gender-stereotyped twist.

I’m giving Grindhouse 5 hearts out of 5. It was totally THAT good:
